Stony Point Golf Course Clubhouse

Clubhouse and Amenities – 6.83

The clubhouse at Stony Point Golf Course in Manistique, Michigan, is a welcoming hub for golfers and visitors alike. Located at 8102 W US Highway 2 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the clubhouse has a rustic charm that complements the natural beauty of the surrounding area. A gravel parking lot offers adequate parking and ride in top notch golf carts on decent cart paths. Enjoy amenities such as a practice green and chipping area. The lovely front outdoor patio is a great place to relax before or after a round with a drink from the coolers of beer or soda. Food available is limited but good for a snack. The pro shop has a limited selection featuring balls, gloves, tees, markers and there are rental clubs available. Service and hospitality were excellent. We consider Stony Point a fun place to golf.

Stony Point Golf Course Hole 1

Hole 1 – Par 4 – Rating 7.14

Green: 260 yds
Gold: 310 yds
White: 340 yds
Blue: 350 yds

Begin your round on this beautiful starting hole from elevated tees that are large and level. This rolling fairway doglegs slightly right around a pond water hazard with thick, medium length rough. Bunkers contain real sand and fringe is maintained. The large green is receptive, rolling, and sloped back to front with a few bare spots at time of review. It putts at a medium speed.

Hole 2 – Par 3 – Rating 7.20

Green: 115 yds
Gold: 130 yds
White: 145 yds
Blue: 150 yds

The first par 3 starts on large, level and tiered tee boxes. It’s all carry to the medium size green guarded by a water hazard left and dense, medium length rough. A maintained fringe surrounds the green, and the surface is medium in speed, rolling, receptive, and sloped back to front.

Hole 3 – Par 4 – Rating 6.67

Green: 285 yds

White: 360 yds
Blue: 380 yds

Hole 3 is a marvelous par 4 from large and level tees. Tee over a water hazard to the rolling fairway edged by medium length rough. Anything wide either way ends up in the tree line. The medium size green has two pond water hazards, one to each side and a maintained fringe. No bunkers to avoid before you reach another green sloped back to front.  This receptive and rolling green putts at a medium speed.

Hole 4 – Par 5 – Rating 5.43

This first of 2 back-to-back par 5’s is a challenge from level, medium size tees. This rolling fairway had a few dead spots at time of review. Trees line the fairway, which features medium length rough. A water hazard is right off the tee and bunkers contain real sand with multiple rakes, although they do have a little grass in them. Maintained fringe surrounds this large, medium speed green with a receptive, rolling surface sloped back to front. There are a few bare spots at time of review.

Hole 5 – Par 5 – Rating 5.67

Green: 370 yds

White: 465 yds
Blue: 480 yds

Your second par 5 in a row starts on large and level tees. The fairway is rolling, edged with medium rough and tree-lined. Tee over the marsh/wetlands area to set up in the fairway for your next shot. The course keeps the fringe well-maintained and there are no bunkers on this hole. The receptive, rolling green is medium in speed.  It’s large in size and sloped back to front.

Hole 6 – Par 4 – Rating 6.33

Green: 245 yds
Gold: 255 yds
White: 270 yds
Blue: 280 yds

Level, medium size tees point you down the flat fairway on this par 4. The hole is tree-lined with medium length rough. There are no bunkers, but golfers must avoid the pond water hazard. A maintained fringe edges the medium size and speed green. The surface is tiered and receptive.

Hole 7 – Par 3 – Rating 6.33

Green: 120 yds
Gold: 130 yds
White: 135 yds
Blue: 145 yds

For the second par 3, tee over a stony wetlands area and a real sand bunker to reach the large, elevated green. The rough is medium length and tree-lined but, thankfully, the hole is short. The fringe is maintained around the large, receptive green. It slopes back to front, is rolling, and runs at a medium speed.

Hole 8 – Par 4 – Rating 5.67

Green: 260 yds
Gold: 295 yds
White: 370 yds
Blue: 380 yds

Hole 8 is all about placing the ball off the small but level tees into the flat fairway in the right spot. This hole is tree-lined with medium length rough. There are various marshy wetlands to avoid but no bunkers. The green is large with a maintained fringe, sloped back to front, rolling, and receptive.  It putts at a medium speed.

Hole 9 – Par 4 – Rating 6.40

Green: 265 yds
Gold: 300 yds
White: 375 yds
Blue: 385 yds

Tee over a water hazard from level, medium size tee blocks in the tree-lined, flat fairway with medium length rough. There are no bunkers to worry about. A maintained fringe skirts the receptive, rolling and sloped back to front green which is medium in size and speed.

SUMMARY

Stony Point Golf Course in Manistique, Michigan, is a hidden gem, a 9-hole course in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Not far from Big Springs or Lake Michigan, this course combines bent grass fairways, rolling terrain, and spruce wetlands to provide a setting of perfect scenery of the upper peninsula while enjoying a round of golf. The course’s maintenance ensures that players enjoy a great playing surface surrounded by a classic upper Michigan retreat. Beyond the greens, Stony Point Golf Course also provides a range of amenities, including a well-appointed clubhouse, practice facilities, and a friendly staff ready to enhance the overall golfing experience.
Stony Point Golf course is a easy drive from many well-known attractions in the U.P. such as Hiawatha National Forest, Lake Superior, Palms Book State Park, and Crystal Falls, making it a great stop and play along the way or a great 9-hole add-on to a day at other nearby courses like Indian Lake Golf Course or NAHMA Golf Course. It’s a recommended play for 9-hole courses, especially in the U.P.
NOTE: The course suffered a geological mishap when areas of bedrock cracked allowing some of the shallow water hazards to drain away. These former ponds still act as hazards of wetlands or dry waste areas. While this was unfortunate, Stony Point Golf Course has attempted recovery and maintains a quality course.
