Oak Lane Golf Course Clubhouse

Clubhouse and Amenities – Rating 5.78

At Oak Lane Golf Course, the clubhouse may not impress from outside, but it is quite spacious and nice inside for the 18-hole course. The pro shop area has a decent selection of equipment (including some golf clubs) at average pricing and a limited apparel selection at normal pricing. The food selection is limited but good quality for typical bar food. There is a full bar, wide selection of beers, sodas and other drinks. Outside has no bag drop. The carts are good quality as are the cart paths. Parking is adequate and close by. There is a friendly staff and good service throughout.

Hole 1 – Par 4 – Rating 6.40

Start your round on level, medium size tees that are elevated and positioned right near the clubhouse. The rolling fairway runs up and down hill with elevation changes and there is medium length rough. No bunkers or water hazards here to contend with. There is a maintained fringe around the large green that putts fast and is receptive.

Your first par 3 has medium size, level tees and a flat approach to the green. The green is guarded by medium length rough and real sand bunkers that are maintained but a bit grassy at the edges. The green is large with a maintained fringe and a surface that is receptive, rolling, and runs at a fast speed.

Medium size, level tee boxes direct your tee shot to the rolling fairway with a slight dogleg right, plus drastic elevation changes both uphill and downhill. The rough is medium in length and the bunkers have grassy edges but are real sand. We have another large, fast, and receptive, rolling green.

The tee blocks here are large and level. This 2nd of 3 par 3’s on the front nine is fairway straight forward with a flat approach and a maintained fringe. Bunkers are real sand and medium rough helps guard the green. The green itself is large, rolling, receptive, and runs at a fast pace.

This par 4 has level, medium size tees and doglegs slightly left. The rolling fairway is another with up and downhill elevation changes. There is medium length rough and no hazards to worry about. The fringe is maintained around the large, receptive, fast, putting green.

You have arrived at the only par 5 on the front nine and it is a good one. Starting from large and level tee blocks the tee shot rises to a rolling fairway with medium rough. The hole then runs back downhill to the green. There are real sand bunkers and a maintained fringe near this large and fast green with a rolling, tiered and receptive feel.

The final par 3 on the front plays downhill form medium sized, level tees. There are no hazards but the rough is medium length to help guard the green. A maintained fringe edges this large, receptive green that putts at a fast speed.

The tees are medium size and level to start this par 4. The fairway is flat with medium rough and there is a water hazard right of the fairway. The bunkers are real sand with grassy edges and the fringe is maintained. The large, fast green has a rolling and receptive surface.

The final hole on the front nine is a longish par 4 starting from level, medium size tees. The fairway is rolling and falls away a little on the right so hug the middle if possible. There are no hazards and the rough is medium in length. The large green has a maintained fringe, is receptive, and fast in speed.

The back nine opens up with a monster par 5 topping out at 560 yards from the tips. The tees are large and level. The rolling fairway runs flat and then downhill with a water hazard right of the fairway as you near the green. No bunkers and the fringe is maintained on this receptive, rolling, large green that putts at a fast pace.

Hole 11 has level, medium size tee blocks. As a short par 4 dogleg left you may not need a driver to tee off. Beware going left as the Red Cedar River is lurking in the trees and has taken many a golf ball. The fairway is flat and the rough is medium length. Bunkers are real sand and fringe is maintained. This receptive and rolling green is medium size and runs at a fast speed.

Medium size, level tees have you tee uphill on this shorter par 4. The rough is medium length and there are no hazards to avoid. The fringe surrounding the medium size green is maintained. The green surface is receptive and putts at a fast pace.

This hole starts on level, medium size tees. As a typical uphill par 4, the fairway is rolling with rough of a medium length. The bunkers are real sand and the fringe is well-maintained. This green is large, has a receptive feel, is rolling and also fast.

Finally, you reach the first par 3 on the back nine and will play from level, medium size tees. This par 3 is fairly unremarkable with only medium rough guarding the green. Golf with no hazards of any kind. The medium size green has a maintained fringe, a receptive feel and a fast speed.

Level, medium size tee boxes set you up to tee off to an uphill fairway with medium length rough siding it. The bunkers are real sand and the fringe is maintained. This receptive and rolling green has a fast speed and is medium in size.

The last par 3 begins on medium size tees that are unfortunately not level. The hole plays slightly downhill and the rough is medium length guarding the green. There are no hazards to be wary of. A maintained fringe surrounds this small and receptive green that runs at a fast speed.

Hole 17 – Par 5 – Rating 6.66

You tee off of level, medium size tees on what we consider the signature hole for Oak Lane. The fairway is flat and doglegs sharply right with trees tempting you to carry over them at the corner. The rough is medium and there are no bunkers, but there is a large pond water hazard lurking down the right side of the fairway near the green. Avoid that at all costs, even if it means laying up. The fringe is maintained around the medium size green with a receptive and fast putting surface.

Hole 18 – Par 4 – Rating 6.66

Black: 347 yds

The final hole has medium size, level tees and is a sweeping style dogleg right with a water hazard far right that should not come into play. The ground right of the flat fairway is softer so left may prove better. The bunkers are real sand but do have some grass patches and the fringe is maintained. The green has a receptive and rolling surface leaning back to front and it putts at a fast speed with a receptive feel.

SUMMARY:

Oak Lane Golf Course provides a course in good shape overall with a challenging slope rating for a course not known for its length. From the longest tees it plays 6,172 yards with frequent small knolls, ample fairways and tricky greens. Some of the course is cut through a wooded area and some is a more traditional style of layout. They maintain good conditions and keep the greens in excellent shape for a course that can be a great value with affordable green fees. It is one of the nice golf courses to play if in the Webberville area. It is a unique par 70 (34-36) that is fun to play so make a tee time and enjoy a solid round.
